Gur Cake

Gur cake is a traditional dessert consisting of a pastry shell filled with bread slices that were soaked in tea, sugar, dried fruit, and spices such as cinnamon. The cake is baked until golden brown, and it is usually served in slices or squares, preferably with a cup of strong tea on the side. Originally, the cake was invented in the 1930s as a way to use up leftover bread at the end of the week, but today it can be found in most Irish bakeries.
