Staroverska torta

Staroverska torta is a traditional cake associated with the villages around Valpovo in Slavonia. This unique cake is composed of multiple layers of thin, yeast-based dough, interspersed with a variety of rich fillings. Typical fillings include poppy seeds, walnuts, carob, cinnamon, raisins, cocoa, and fruit jam, mixed with sugar, lard, and breadcrumbs. The preparation process involves rolling the dough into thin sheets and layering them with the fillings in a round baking dish. The final product is baked to a golden brown, creating a cake that is both flavorful and visually appealing.
