Kapuśniak

This traditional Polish wintertime dish is made with a base of sauerkraut, potatoes, and root vegetables. Kapuśniak is similar to other sauerkraut soups made in Eastern and Central Europe, but the Polish version is often flavored with cumin and marjoram. Its intense, rich flavor comes from pork ribs and smoked bacon, while the soup itself tastes even better when reheated. It is recommended to serve the soup with fresh rye bread on the side.
