Latiya

Latiya is a sweet Guamanian dessert made with a sponge cake base, vanilla custard, and a hefty sprinkling of cinnamon. It is believed that this traditional Chamorro cake was introduced to the Marianas during the Spanish period, from the 17th to the 19th centuries. Some believe that its origins lie in the Spanish natillas. Commonly made by women, latiya is nowadays a staple of numerous parties and celebrations.
