Lattacciolo

Lattacciolo is a traditional dessert originating from Abruzzo, where it's prepared as an ancient version of creme caramel. The dessert is made with a combination of milk, eggs, sugar, and grated lemon or orange peel. The eggs are beaten with sugar, then mixed with the boiling milk and grated peel. The combination is caramelized so that it doesn't burn, and it's then transferred to a ring-shaped mold and cooked in a bain-marie. Lattacciolo is traditionally served and eaten cold.
