Pilgrim sandwich is a practical way of using leftovers from Thanksgiving Day. It consists of sliced bread or sliced bread roll filled with slices of roast turkey, turkey stuffing, cranberry sauce, and cheese – typically cheddar. There are many versions of this sandwich, and gravy is the most common optional ingredient added into the pilgrim, although it can also be enriched with the addition of butter, onions, apples, and celery. Nowadays, according to Esquire, the pilgrim is one of America's favorite sandwiches.
