Bijajica
Bijajica is a traditional cookie with indigenous origins, and it's especially popular in Santa Catarina. It's made with a combination of peanuts, cassava, sugar, cloves, fennel, and cinnamon. Traditionally, the Guarani people grind the peanuts in wooden pestles and dry the cassava in tipiti, a braided straw vessel. After the ingredients have been mixed together, the concoction is wrapped in banana leaves and steamed or roasted over flames.
