Torta de Viana

This traditional dessert hails from Viana do Castelo, and it is one of many Portuguese sweets that originated in a convent. Torta da Viana is prepared with a sponge base that is coated in a creamy egg yolk-based custard (doce de ovos) before it is formed into a roll. The cake is traditionally served dusted with powdered sugar or ground cinnamon.
