Gülbeyaz Balıkevi

Balık Ekmek, literally translating to 'fish bread', is an iconic street food of Istanbul, particularly famous along the Eminönü waterfront. It consists of a grilled fillet of oily fish, usually mackerel (uskumru), sandwiched inside a half-loaf of fresh white bread. The fish is typically seasoned simply and grilled to perfection. The sandwich is then packed with fresh onions, lettuce, and a squeeze of lemon juice, creating a harmonious balance of savory, crunchy, and zesty flavors. The experience of eating Balık Ekmek by the Bosphorus, often served from rocking boats, is a quintessential part of Istanbul's culinary soul.
