Genfo or ga'at is a simple Ethiopian and Eritrean porridge that is commonly consumed for breakfast, made by adding dry-roasted barley flour or wheat flour to boiling water and stirring the concoction with a wooden utensil until it develops a smooth, yet extremely thick consistency. The porridge is then transferred to a bowl, shaped into a mound, and a hole is created in the center, usually by using a finjal (Ethiopian coffee cup). The well is filled with clarified spiced butter niter kibbeh (it will usually be made with spices like besobela known as Ethiopian sacred basil, koseret, fenugreek, cumin, coriander, turmeric, Ethiopian cardamom, cinnamon, or nutmeg ) and berbere, a mix of chili peppers and up to 20 different spices. Genfo is traditionally consumed as it is, although it can be accompanied by a scoop of yogurt. The dish is often shared and consumed by pulling the thick porridge pieces from the outside and dipping them into the spice blend in the center.

Gibassier is a French pastry consisting of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and olive oil. Orange peel, orange-flavored water, and anise seed are also often incorporated into the dough, giving it a unique flavor. The pastry is usually served for breakfast, and tradition says that a piece of bread should be consumed by dipping it into honey butter while it is still warm. Gibassier is likely to have originated in the village of Lourmarin, in the French region of Provence. Today, the pastry is even popular outside France, due to the founder of the San Francisco Baking Institute, named Michel Suas, who popularized it in the 2000s.

Goetta is a sausage-like patty that is synonymous with Cincinnati, although its roots are steeped in German heritage, due to the influx of German-born immigrants in the 19th century. The sausage is commonly eaten for breakfast, and consists of pork, beef, onions, spices, and unprocessed oats. Traditionally, it is sliced and fried until golden brown, then served with eggs and ketchup on the side. What was once a humble breakfast is today a hip and glamorous dish that is sometimes even used as a hamburger topping. As further proof of goetta's popularity, there is an annual celebration held since 2004 in the Greater Cincinnati area, called Goettafest, focusing on goetta, music, dancing, and other forms of public entertainment.

Gogoși is a donut prepared the Romanian way, made with a dough mixture that is flavored with vanilla extract and grated lemon or orange peel, then deep-fried in hot oil. Traditional gogoși is prepared without yeast or butter, and the dough mixture is added to hot oil in spoonfuls, yielding donuts with different, irregular shapes, unlike the regular round-shaped donuts. A typical homemade treat, gogoși can also be found in bakeries and supermarkets across Romania, sometimes labeled as gogoși infuriate, meaning infuriated gogoși. It is served warm with a generous dusting of icing sugar on top and can be filled with fruit jams or chocolate. Sweet and spongy, these donuts can be eaten as a dessert, a snack, or a breakfast.

Gorditas de huevos is a Mexican dish consisting of masa cakes filled with eggs. The gorditas are made with masa harina, salt, and water. The dough is fried on both sides until golden brown, and it is then topped with scrambled eggs. The eggs can be enriched with garlic or chili peppers, if desired. This classic Sicilian semi-frozen dessert is just the thing to cool you down during the dog days of summer. It is served all across the island, and traditionally enjoyed for breakfast alongside an espresso and brioche. Granita is made with water, sugar, and fruit juice or various other flavorings. It is sometimes confused with sorbetto, though granita has a much grainier texture, hence the name, while its origins can be traced back to the sweet Arabic chilled drink sharbāt which was introduced to Sicily during Arab rule. However, traditional granita is not simply chilled but almost frozen - in fact, it was once called rattata (lit. grated) and made using snow and ice from Etna that was collected during winter, then stored in mountain caves. Until the early 20th century and the advent of Italy's first ice cream makers, this was the only way to prepare this icy dessert. Some of the favorite modern Italian takes on this ancient recipe include sweet Sicilian lemon and zesty blood orange varieties. With other flavors such as rich espresso, almond, or even those spiked with luscious liqueurs, the possibilities for granita are seemingly endless.

Granita al limone is made with lemon juice, water, and sugar, while lemon zest is often used as a flavoring. Like other types of granita, this lemony version is often accompanied by a Sicilian brioche (brioscia), and though is it is commonly enjoyed as a refreshing dessert, the Sicilians prefer to enjoy it as a sweet breakfast.

Although granita&mdash;frozen Sicilian dessert similar to sorbetto&mdash;is enjoyed throughout Sicily, the city of Messina is often dubbed as its spiritual home, and apart from typical flavors such as lemon, strawberry, chocolate, peach, mulberry, and pistachio, the most common specialty associated with the city is the coffee-flavored granita. In Messina, granita has a coarser structure, and the coffee-flavored combination is often called mezza con panna, which translates as half with cream. This name stems from the ancient practice of serving granita in larger glasses and those who would prefer smaller portions would often order only half (mezza). This size later became a standard and granita is nowadays usually served in regular water glasses. Interestingly, even though the name does not specify, mezza con panna only refers to granita with coffee. This frozen sweet treat is often topped with unsweetened whipped cream, and it comes served with Italian brioche (brioscia) on the side. Although it can be enjoyed as a regular dessert, Sicilians prefer to eat granita di caff&egrave; as a sweet breakfast option.

It was then cooked in cast-iron pans over fires, and traditionally served with hot grits or rice. The most popular dish in Indonesian Yogyakarta is called gudeg, a unique dish made with unripe jackfruit cooked in coconut milk. The two most common varieties are dry and wet gudeg. Both varieties use the same ingredients, but the dry gudeg uses less coconut milk, is cooked longer, and has a much thicker sauce. Because it is easier to consume and transport it, the dry variety is more frequent today. It is an authentic Indonesian dish usually sold by street vendors or at specialized gudeg restaurants. The most common condiments served with gudeg are white rice, chicken, hard-boiled eggs, tempeh, or tofu. If bought at street stalls it is usually packed in besek - a rectangular package made out of bamboo leaves. The dish is eaten for breakfast, lunch or dinner and food stalls selling gudeg are usually open from the early morning until late in the evening.

G&uuml;l b&ouml;reği is a single serving type of b&ouml;rek that's shaped into a spiral or a rose. Yufka or phyllo dough is traditionally stuffed with the most popular fillings: spinach, soft white cheese, potatoes, or ground meat. Once assembled, the dough is rolled into a coil-like shape and the b&ouml;rek is then baked until golden brown. If desired, g&uuml;l b&ouml;reği can be sprinkled with sesame or nigella seeds before baking. It's recommended to serve the b&ouml;rek warm and pair it with a cup of tea or yogurt.

Hajdina ka&scaron;a or heljdina ka&scaron;a is a traditional dish that&rsquo;s especially popular in the regions of Zagorje and Međimurje. Although there are many recipes, this porridge is usually made with a combination of buckwheat, onions, salt, black pepper, bay leaves, water or vegetable stock, and often lard. The onions are saut&eacute;ed in pork fat and mixed with buckwheat, salt, and bay leaves. The mixture is covered with water or stock, and it&rsquo;s then simmered until the porridge becomes soft and the liquid evaporates. The bay leaves are discarded before serving. This healthy porridge can be served as a side dish to roasted meat, but it can also be served on its own, usually for breakfast.
